Introduction - ClientSide Transition (5 mins)

  • Introduction and overview of webinar learning outcomes.

Learning Outcome 1 - The ClientSide Perspective (15 mins)

Understand how ‘ClientSide’ and ‘Delivery’ environments differ in mindset terms:

  • Being Strategic: Taking a longer term perspective to understand ‘why’ and ‘how’ your client wants to achieve project completion, rather than delivering to ‘contract’ only.

  • Client Stakeholder Management: Switching from managing a single external ‘client’ to having multiple ‘client stakeholders’ with different roles and influence levels.

  • An Adoptable Generalist: No longer a specialist providing contract deliverables, you are now an adoptable generalist, ‘clienting’ projects at both a strategic and detailed level.

Learning Outcome 2 - The ClientSide Skillset (15 mins)

Recognise that the ClientSide Skillset has three strands:

  • Managing Yourself: with a combination of management and leadership to influence others, secure decisions, model the way, highlight risks and provide informed advice.

  • Managing the ‘Client’ Organisation: working with stakeholders, internal governance processes and confirming resources and support are in place to deliver at each stage.

  • Managing the External Teams: briefing, commissioning, monitoring, challenging and supporting the design and delivery teams to provide the outputs and outcomes required from the project.

Learning Outcome 3- The Client Value-Add (15 mins)

Add value on a daily basis by:

  • Thinking Many Moves Ahead: to resolve problems and unlock opportunities.

  • Being Commercial: selecting a suitable project strategy, finding additional floorspace, commissioning the right team, challenging cost and programme assumptions.

  • Securing and Maintaining Senior Management Support: recognise when its in place and when it isn’t so you can do something about it.
